Trained as doctors, Ophthalmologists must have completed a college degree, medical shool, as well as residency in ophtalmology.
• Optician (PR) - An optician is a specialized eye care practitioner who designs, fits and dispenses lenses to correct a person's vision. Opticians determine the specifications of various ophthalmic devices that will give correct a person's eyesight. Some registered or licensed Opticians design and fit specialized appliances to correct cosmetic, traumatic or physical defects. Other registered or licensed Opticians may also design and manufacture lenses as well as spectacle frames and other devices.
• Optometric Technician (PR) - Optometric technicians assist optometrists in performing a variety of tasks such as recording patient medical histories and helping prepare patients for the vision examinations. They also assist with tests that include patient pre-testing for visual acuity, color vision, depth perception, pupil reflexes, visual field testing, pressure inside the eye, and blood pressure. Optometric technicians may also be asked to assist with eye exercises and vision therapy. Optometric technicians are usually supervised by an optometrist to ensure patient health and well being.
• Optometrist (Eye Doctor) (PR) - Doctors of optometry (ODs) are the primary health care professionals for the eye. Optometrists examine, diagnose, treat, and manage diseases, injuries, and disorders of the visual system, the eye, and associated structures as well as identify related systemic conditions affecting the eye. An optometrist has completed pre-professional undergraduate education in a college or university and four years of professional education at a college of optometry, leading to the doctor of optometry (O.D.) degree. Some optometrists complete an optional residency in a specific area of practice.Optometrists are eye health care professionals state-licensed to diagnose and treat diseases and disorders of the eye and visual system.
• Orthoptist (PR) - Orthopists are eye care specialists who work with ophthalmologists to evaluate and treat eye movement and alignment disorders. Orthopists help patients manage or cure ocular conditions such as crossed eyes, double vision and lazy eye (amblyopia). Orthopists may also assist ophthalmologists create treatment plans including eye exercises, eye patches, eye drops or special glasses.
• Pediatric Optometry (PR) - Optometrists who work in Pediatrics are concerned with the prevention, development, diagnosis, and treatment of visual problems in children.
• Sports Vision (PR) - An optometrist who offers services designed to care for unique vision care needs of athletes, which may include one of more of the following services: corrective vision care unique to a specific sporting environment; protective eyewear for the prevention of sports-related injuries; vision enhancement ? which may include vision therapy and techniques to improve visual skills specific to the athlete?s sport.
• Vision Therapy (PR) - Optometrists who specialize in vision therapy as a treatment process used to improve vision function. It includes a broad range of developmental and rehabilitative treatment programs individually prescribed to remediate specific sensory, motor and/or visual perceptual dysfunctions.
